So I was roaming around Golden Gate Park, in the Haight-Ashbury area, and decided to try a new spot: Flywheel Coffee Roasters. I forgot how I heard about it but I remember hearing great things and...it BLEW ME AWAY!
I wasn't planning on sticking around but I really wanted to once I walked in. Here is what I ordered and how I rated this gem!
Ordered: almond milk latte to-go
Taste: Wow! Not sure what kind of almond milk they use, but WOW! I was really diggin' the slight sweetness to my latte, which allowed me to taste their high-quality espresso beans without the biting bitterness that almond milk (when not steamed correctly) usually poses. So definitely no sugar was needed...unless you like your beverages super sweet...I had to give the barista a kudos before I left...she knew her stuff. 5/5
Creaminess: The espresso truly blended with the milk which created that cute round brim lat the top (the one that makes you wonder if the beverage will topple or not, but it clearly won't). I enjoyed the leftover foam once my beverage was complete...just wish I had a spoon :). 5/5
Presentation: The barista made me a leaf which was cute. Loved it. I also appreciate how their to-go cups and tops are compostable. Gotta love bein' in the Bay :) 5/5
Ambiance: So I'll be honest, finding this place was interesting. It's kinda in the middle of a random street near the park. I didn't notice any cool spots around it, which is why it prolly peaked my interest more. It really is a hole-in-the-wall coffee hot spot but once you walk in, you get that nice urban contemporary vibe, which I really dug. It's also very bright and open so it doesn't feel claustrophiobic. It actually looked like there was enough seating for everyone who was already there and those that came in along with me to have a place to sit and relax. I'm totally coming back because they have free WiFi (cha-ching!)-not sure if it's secured WiFi but I'll definitely be back here and will report my findings. 5/5
Service: Before I arrived, I called to make sure that almond was milk was available and was greeted by a very jolly man who sang "Flywheel Coffee Roasters, how can I help you." He was super friendly and eased my tension that there was, in fact, almond milk. The person who rang me up and the barista both seemed cool as well. No pretension. 5/5
Overall: I'll have to come back again to confirm this but I'm pretty sure this is one of my new favorite coffee spots in San Francisco. They know their stuff' I walked in expecting to have to chug a pack of raw sugar into my latte but the latte and their almond milk were really high quality. I'm so glad I can enjoy a well-made almond milk latte here (and not have to worry about the calories of added sugar). 5/5...perfection! :D
