Wa a truly disappointed this weekend having had two burned lattes but hey...we all mistakes and I'm hoping that the burned lattes aren't a true staple of both coffee shops from this weekend.
So yesterday, I focused on Flywheel Coffee Roasters. Today, I went to Cafe St. George. I've been here twice: the first time I had a vanilla almond milk latte, which was perfect and the second time I came, I had a hemp milk latte (by sugar needed) and granola parfait with fruit to-go. I loved both lattes and the granola is amazing. It has the perfect balance of nuttiness and sweetness. I'm definitely coming back for that, no questions asked.
Today, I ordered an almond milk latte (which smelled slightly burned even from the cute mug) and an almond butter toast with honey. So the latte was definitely bitter/burned, especially the last few sips and the foam. I could tell it was burned cuz the foam gets super dark brown. If it's heated properly, the foam is usually my very dark and has a nice creaminess that pairs well with the espresso and is delicious to eat. I told the manager later and she offered to have another one made for me but I was too jaded by the first one and thought the mistake would be made again...plus, I didn't want more caffeinica cuz I already my two cup max at that point. It's a shame because they use Portland's Stumptown coffee and that stuff rocks. Funny thing is the past two times I came m, the latte art sucked and the lattes were perfect. Today, the latte art was so cute but the latte tastes terrible.
As for the toast, I'm too obsessed with The Mill's toast/bread and Reveille's peanut butter and jam that today's toast was kinda boring. I think the issue was the bread. It should be more dense and their almond butter should be thicker. I like how The Mill's toast is thick but they slab in a thick layer of honey/jam/butter/almond butter/etc. so it pairs well with the density of the bread. The honey design was cute, though :)
So yeah...I really thought Cafe St. George would be added to my list of favorites but not for almond milk lattes. I'll definitely be back for the granola but that's about it.
Almond milk latte and almond butter toast with cute honey design. Pretty
